100th Anniversary of Posada’s Death
Today, January 20, marks the 100th anniversary of the passing of Mexico’s most influential cartoonist, José Guadalupe Posada.
Posada died penniless and was buried in a nameless grave in one Mexico City’s public cemeteries. His work was soon rediscovered and quickly became a staple part of Mexican popular culture.
Known best for his calavera caricatures, Posada was an ardent critic of Porfirio Díaz whose cartoons and illustrations served as inspiration to the men and women who would lead the artistic renaissance of post-Revolution Mexico.
¡Que viva José Guadalupe Posada!

You must know that we owe La Catrina to José Guadalupe Posada (and yes, to Diego Rivera too).
